Our Approach

Principles of psychotherapeutic work at Mezidobí

1. Understanding matters.
We will not reduce you to a diagnosis, a problem, or a single symptom. We will be interested in what you are experiencing, how you yourself understand it, and the context and circumstances of your life.

2. We will not tell you how to live.
Psychotherapy is not a manual for the “right” life. Our task is not to decide for you, but to help you better understand yourself, your relationships, your options, and your decisions.

3. We will not pretend to have a patent on success.
There is no single psychotherapeutic method that works the same way for everyone. We adapt our way of working to the specific person, their needs, and a professional assessment of their situation.

4. We consider expertise a given, not a marketing slogan.
Our therapists work within their professional qualifications, continue their education, and reflect on their work. Supervision, consultation, and other forms of professional reflection are part of our professional responsibility.
For us, expertise also means knowing where the limits of our competence lie.

5. We don’t believe in quick answers.
Psychotherapy deals with complex questions that often have no simple answer. We believe that uncertainty is a natural part of both the psychotherapeutic process and honest professional work.
Mezidobí (“The In-Between”) is the time between what no longer works and what has not yet emerged. That’s why we may sometimes “not know” together for a while — staying with the question, looking for connections, and gradually discovering what makes sense to you.

6. A safe space
We will maintain safety, confidentiality, clear boundaries, and respect for your privacy. We know that psychotherapy can be demanding and that its course is not always straightforward. Sometimes it can be turbulent and full of discovery, other times calm or seemingly stagnant. We will be there with you through it.

7. We maintain confidentiality.
We consider the information you share with us during psychotherapy confidential. We protect your privacy and handle information about you in accordance with professional and legal rules.
Our psychotherapists work under supervision. As part of supervision, they may consult on their work with an experienced psychotherapist for the purpose of professional reflection and improving care quality. Information is anonymized so that the client cannot be identified.

8. You are an active partner in psychotherapy.
We don’t want psychotherapy to be a place where a person merely waits for help from outside. We want to create a space where you can actively think about what you’re experiencing, ask questions, disagree, and search for your own answers.
In psychotherapy, you are an equal partner to us. The therapist brings professional knowledge and responsibility for their work; you are the expert on your own life and have the right to actively shape the course of our work together.
We also use the Deepsy tool to gather structured feedback.

9. We adhere to a code of ethics and principles of good practice.
Our psychotherapeutic work is based on the professional and ethical standards of psychotherapy.
Among others, we draw on the code of ethics of the Czech Association for Psychotherapy and the code of ethics of the European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP).

10. We do not want to create dependency on psychotherapy.
The goal of psychotherapy is not for you to need your therapist in order to live well. We want to support your independence, your ability to make decisions, and your trust in your own judgment.
Psychotherapy can offer a space for change, understanding, and new possibilities. What you do with them remains your decision.
We will be here for you, but our goal is for you to no longer need us.
