Our Professional Principles

1. We will work only within our competence.

We will not provide care for which we lack the appropriate training, experience or conditions. If a situation goes beyond our competence, we will seek consultation or refer the client to other professional care.

2. We will continuously reflect on our work.

Psychotherapy is not work that can be studied once and then simply repeated. We will keep learning, follow developments in the field, and think critically about our own therapeutic practice.

3. We regard supervision as part of our professional responsibility.

Supervision is not a sign that a therapist cannot cope with their work. It is a tool that helps protect the quality of care, the client and the therapist. We will therefore have our work supervised regularly and seek consultation wherever we need it.

4. We will respect the boundaries of the therapeutic relationship.

We will not use the therapeutic relationship for our own benefit. We will uphold professional boundaries, confidentiality, privacy and the client’s safety.

5. We will not reduce the client to a diagnosis.

Diagnostic categories can be useful. However, they cannot replace an understanding of the individual person and their life situation.

6. We will work with uncertainty.

We will not create a false impression of certainty where professional knowledge or the clinical situation does not allow it. We will be able to say “I don’t know”, “I’m not sure” or “I need to consult on this”.

7. We will respect the client’s autonomy.

We will not impose our own values, lifestyle or decisions on the client. It is not our role to live their life for them.

8. We will be willing to admit when our way of working is not working.

If it turns out that the therapeutic relationship or the chosen approach is not helping the client, we will treat this as a topic for open conversation, not as something to be maintained at all costs.

9. We will protect the professional reputation of the centre through the way we work.

Mezidobí does not want to be merely a group of therapists connected by a shared space. Each therapist is a co-creator of the centre’s professional culture. We therefore expect professionalism, respect for colleagues, responsibility and a willingness to address professional questions openly.

10. We will keep in mind why we do this work.

Psychotherapy is not a service in which the client simply “gets what they paid for”. It is professional work with a person in a situation that can be very personal and at times very vulnerable. It is our responsibility not to abuse this trust.
